Prologue
Isabella Orosco is a New York City based performer, playwright, and podcaster. Originally from the coast of North Carolina, Isabella is a lifetime member of Girl Scouts and is best defined by her analytical curiosity, love for horror films, self-proclaimed “geek” status, and bubbly enthusiasm for life and art of all kinds. Her mother actually encouraged her to pursue a career in the arts because it was the only career where she would get to learn and explore EVERY career she was ever interested in... and there were many.
She moved to New York to attend Marymount Manhattan College and fell in love with script writing and new work development while cultivating her skills as a performer. Her senior year of college, she speed-rapped her way through Spongebob the Musical (Dir. by Coleman Ray Clark; Music Dir. by Doug Oberhammer) starring as Sheldon J. Plankton, and received the Golden Key Award in Writing for the Stage. She graduated with honors spring of 2024, with a BFA in Musical Theatre, and BA in Writing for the Stage.
When she isn’t performing, she uses her playwriting to explore science, media, and politics, while simultaneously satiating her love for journalism through intense research. Infusing cinematic genre aesthetics with big ideas and questions, her plays have been described as visceral and immediate by peers and professionals alike. Her latest endeavor has been the development of the podcast Craven Conventions: the show all about female representation in horror films. By tracing the evolution of storytelling and socio-historical influences on cinema, she hopes to provide a holistic feminist perspective on horror.
This fall, she is serving as the first ever Artistic Administration fellow at Roundabout Theatre Company. Working closely with the Literary and Producing teams inside the Artistic department, she is excited to spend the year deepening her knowledge of new work development, and script evaluation.
Overall, her natural habitat is and forever shall be a cozy couch in a sun patch, with a good fantasy novel. For other updates on performing, writing and life she can be found on Instagram @The_Geek_Nextdoor
